Effect of Grain Orientation on Mechanical Properties of Laser Selective Melting GH3536 Alloy

    • To investigate the effect of grain orientation on the mechanical properties of deposited GH3536 alloy, GH3536 alloy was prepared via laser selective melting. The microstructure, grain orientation, and room temperature tensile properties of the deposited GH3536 alloy were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction and tensile test. The results show that in the deposited GH3536 alloy, the morphology of the molten pool boundaries differs significantly in different directions, the equiaxed and columnar fine grains are formed inside the molten pool. When the layer rotation angle is 0°, <100> grain orientation is dominant in the horizontal cross-section, and <110> grain orientation is dominant in the vertical cross-section. The enhancement in <100> oriented grains leads to an increase in the ultimate tensile strength of the specimen and a decrease in elongation; while the enhancement in <110> oriented grains lead to a decrease in the tensile strength of the specimen and an increase in elongation.
