Effects of TiC Addition Amount on Microstructure and Properties of TA15 Laser Cladding Composite Coating

    • In order to solve the problems of poor wear resistance and easy adhesion of TA15 titanium alloy, laser cladding technology was used to prepare TA15-TiC titanium alloy-ceramic laser cladding composite coating on TA15 substrate. The results show that, the phase of the cladding layer is mainly composed of α'-Ti, β-Ti and TiC. As the cladding amount of TiC ceramic particles increases, the morphology of the precipitated TiC changes from feather-like and chain-like to dendritic and petal-like. When the TiC cladding amount reaches 20%, a spherical TiC structure is precipitated. Effective TiC phase precipitation and the existence of stable spherical TiC can effectively improve the performance of the cladding layer. When 20 wt% TiC is added, the cladding layer has the best wear resistance, with a hardness up to 600.4 HV0.5, which is 1.5 times that of the base material; the wear rate is 0.89×10-8 mm3/(N·m), and the wear resistance is 9.3 times that of the base material.
