Study on Effect of Swing Mode on Performance of 5754 Aluminum Alloy Laser Welded Joints

    • To investigate the application of 5754 aluminum alloy sheets in the automotive industry, laser welding process experiments were carried out for 1.4 mm aluminum alloy sheets with unremoved or removed oxide film using different swing modes. The surface and cross section morphology, porosity, microstructure and mechanical properties of the welded joints were analyzed. The results show that the existence of oxide film on the surface of 5754 aluminum alloy has little effect on the weld morphology, porosity, microstructure and joint performance of the three swing modes. Under the three different swing modes, the 5754 aluminum alloy welded joint with the lowest porosity and better performance is obtained by using the transverse "∞" swing mode. The tensile strength of the joint can reach 93.7% of the base metal, and the fracture mode is mixed ductile fracture.
