Analysis and Experimental Study on Die Forging Crimping Quality of Strain Clamp for Transmission Line

    • The models of die forging crimping and the simulation analysis model in service state after crimping for the connection between the steel reinforced aluminum conductor (SRAC) and strain clamp in overhead transmission line were constructed by using the finite element analysis method. The whole process of die forging crimping and the tensile process of the samples under different working conditions after pressing were simulated and analyzed. The simulation models were verified by wire die forging crimping and tensile experiments. Based on the simulation model, the influence of the effective crimping width and the crimping force on the mechanical properties of die forging crimping was analyzed. The failure modes, maximum grip force and corresponding critical compressive force of SRAC and strain clamp under different parameters were obtained. The results show that when the die forging crimping force is small, the failure mode of the strain clamp is that the aluminum strand slips from the strain clamp, and the ultimate grip strength increases with the increase of the crimping force. With the increase of the crimping force, the failure mode of the strain clamp gradually evolves into the aluminum tube fracture of the strain clamp.
