Effect of Rare Earth Yttrium Microalloying on Composition and Hot-working Ability of Cu-2Ag Alloy Ingots

Abstract: The effects of rare earth yttrium microalloying on the composition and hot-working ability of Cu-2Ag alloy ingot were studied by using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES), oxygen analyzer, scanning electron microscope(SEM), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and hot forging experiment. The results show that compared with those of Cu-2Ag alloy ingot, the contents of O, S, P and Zn in Cu-2Ag-0.075Y alloy ingot are significantly reduced, and the contents of Bi, As and Sb are also reduced in varying degrees. Rare earth yttrium microalloying can significantly improve the cleanliness of Cu-2Ag alloy ingot composition. Due to the influence of rare earth yttrium microalloying, the hot-working ability of Cu-2Ag-0.075Y alloy ingot changes significantly when the temperature is above 850℃, which is characterized by poor plasticity and thermal brittleness, cracking and even slag crushing after forging.
